EU Allocates €1.6 Million in Humanitarian Aid for Southern Syria
ARK News.. The European Union has announced the allocation of funds as humanitarian assistance for Sweida province and neighboring areas, amid deteriorating infrastructure, weakened public services, and challenges in delivering aid to those in need.
According to a statement from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO), the EU has allocated €1.6 million to support the humanitarian response in southern Syria, particularly in Sweida and surrounding regions.
The financial assistance was provided in coordination with partners, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the Inter-Agency Standing Committee on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
According to the IDP Working Group, the number of internally displaced persons in southern Syria reached around 192,000 as of July 28, amid deteriorating infrastructure, poor public services, and difficulty in delivering humanitarian aid to those in need.
