Iran Thanks Kurdistan Region for Facilitating Pilgrims Attending Imam Hussein’s the Forties
ARK News.. The Iranian Consul in Erbil praised the Kurdistan Regional Government’s preparations for receiving pilgrims attending the Forties commemoration of Imam Hussein’s martyrdom this year, describing them as “far better than in previous years.”
At a joint press conference with Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, Iranian Consul in Erbil Faramarz Asadi said: “Over the past two months, several meetings were held with the governor and local officials in Erbil to coordinate and prepare for welcoming the pilgrims.”
Asadi added that “the work carried out this year to receive the Forties pilgrims has significantly surpassed that of past years.”
He expressed his “gratitude to all officials in the Kurdistan Region, the Regional Government, and the Kurdistan Democratic Party for their cooperation and the facilities they provided for receiving and returning the pilgrims.”
For his part, Governor Omed Khoshnaw affirmed that Erbil will welcome this year’s Iranian pilgrims participating in the Forties pilgrimage “in the best possible way” and “without any problems.”
Khoshnaw noted that Iranian pilgrims heading to central and southern Iraq save considerable time by crossing through the Kurdistan Region both on their way in and out.
He pointed out that the movement of pilgrims this year has been organized smoothly and without obstacles, from the Haji Omran International Border Crossing to the Sherawa checkpoint. He stressed that all relevant government agencies in the Kurdistan Region, under the guidance of President Masoud Barzani, are working to provide the best possible services to these pilgrims.
