President Barzani and U.S. Envoy Steven Fagin Discuss Turkey Peace Process and Situation in Syria

ARK NEWS.. President Masoud Barzani received U.S. Embassy Charge d’Affaires in Iraq, Ambassador Steven Fagin, on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Salahuddin summer residence.

During the meeting, Ambassador Fagin expressed his appreciation for President Barzani’s role and continued efforts in supporting the peace process in Turkey, as well as his work to bridge differences among Kurdish parties in Syria and to strengthen their unity of voice and position.

The U.S. diplomat also praised the Kurdistan Region’s stabilizing role in Iraq and the broader region, reaffirming that the United States supports a strong and stable Kurdistan Region, which he said serves the interests of all parties.

The two sides also discussed the peace process in Turkey and the ongoing developments in Syria. President Barzani emphasized that peace in Turkey benefits all stakeholders in the region and reiterated his commitment to doing everything possible to support and advance the peace process.

Other key topics included the ongoing formation of the Kurdistan Region’s 10th cabinet and the relationship between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government in Baghdad. The visiting delegation informed President Barzani that the United States welcomes the recent agreement between both governments regarding the KRG’s financial entitlements and salaries.
