Syrian Defense Ministry: Army to Remain Outside Suwayda City

ARK News.. The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced that the Syrian army will remain outside Suwayda city, clarifying that the deployment of military police in Suwayda aims to maintain order and discipline.

Speaking to Al Arabiya, Syrian Defense Ministry spokesperson Colonel Hassan Abdel Ghani stated that the army would stay outside the city following the completion of clearing operations. He confirmed the return of government institutions to Suwayda and stressed that Internal Security Forces would be supported as needed. He explained that the presence of military police in Suwayda is intended to ensure proper conduct.

Meanwhile, Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra announced on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, that an agreement had been reached for a ceasefire in Suwayda, and that the army would respond to any attacks by lawbreakers in the area.

In a statement, Abu Qasra said: “To all units operating inside Suwayda city, we declare a complete ceasefire following the agreement with the city’s elders and dignitaries.”

The defense minister also emphasized that strict instructions had been issued to the forces in Suwayda to protect civilians and safeguard property, noting that control of Suwayda’s neighborhoods would be handed over to the Internal Security Forces after clearing operations are complete.
