Joint Statement by the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan

The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) have agreed to intensify efforts to resolve all outstanding issues and to secure the financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region. Both sides committed to taking all necessary steps, within the framework of the Iraqi Constitution, to address these matters through close coordination.

Below is the full text of the joint final communique from the meeting:

On Monday, President Masoud Barzani received PUK President Bafel Talabani and his accompanying delegation. The political bureaus of both parties held a joint meeting to discuss recent developments and challenges facing the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, with particular focus on the salaries and financial dues of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) employees.

Following detailed discussions and an exchange of views on political, economic, and social dimensions, the two sides agreed to intensify all efforts to resolve the crisis, ensure the payment of KRG salaries and financial entitlements, and take all necessary constitutional measures to find solutions in coordination with one another.

Another part of the meeting was dedicated to further strengthening relations between the PUK and the KDP to overcome obstacles and challenges, protect the Kurdistan Region’s entity and its achievements.

The meeting also underscored the need for unified positions among all political parties in Kurdistan and Iraq to help support and resolve this issue
