Ibrahim Biro: The Kurdish Issue in Syria Is a Historical Reality and a National Responsibility
ARK News.. Ibrahim Biro, member of the External Relations Committee of the Kurdish National Council in Syria, affirmed that the Kurdish issue in Syria is a historical reality and a national responsibility, adding that the U.S. stance in Syria has not changed and remains tied to American interests.
Writing on his Facebook page, Biro said: “Since the United States entered Syria, its mission was clearly defined within the framework of fighting ISIS, without any political commitments, including Kurdish aspirations. This position has not changed, but has remained tied to calculations of American interests.”
He added: “The formation of the Syrian Democratic Forces was a temporary military measure to combat terrorism. As the threat of ISIS receded, the U.S. began its gradual withdrawal—without this representing any retreat from commitments that never existed in the first place.”
Biro continued: “The mistake did not lie with American policy, but with certain Kurdish circles that overestimated the value of unguaranteed support, ignoring the regional and international complexities.”
He further explained: “Today, the rapidly changing dynamics in Syria and the region require a reassessment of Kurdish policy on realistic foundations—building balanced partnerships and opening up to all Syrian actors, away from unilateral bets.”
Despite all challenges, Biro stressed, “the Kurdish issue in Syria remains alive, as the cause of a people with a historical presence on their land. It is not the property of any party, faction, or region, but a national issue tied to the future of Syria as a whole.”
He concluded :“The solution begins with building a democratic Syrian state whose constitution guarantees the rights of all its components, foremost among them the Kurdish people.”
