The Kobani Local Council of the Kurdish National Council in Syria released a public statement marking the 10th anniversary of the Kobani Massacre, also known as the “Night of Treachery”—a horrific event that constituted a serious humanitarian and security setback, and which, by international standards, qualifies as a war crime and a crime against humanity.

On the 10th Anniversary of the Kobani Massacre (The Night of Treachery)
At dawn on June 25, 2015, the city of Kobani witnessed a horrific massacre committed by terrorist groups, resulting in the martyrdom of hundreds of innocent civilians—a scene that remains etched in the memory of all who value dignity and justice.
This heinous crime, which occurred only months after the expulsion of ISIS from the city, marked a grave humanitarian and security failure, and by international standards, constitutes a war crime and a crime against humanity.
A decade later, many of the circumstances surrounding the massacre remain unclear, underscoring the urgent need for a fair and transparent investigation that reveals the truth and delivers justice to the victims and their families.
We, in the Kurdish National Council in Syria – Kobani Local Council, strongly condemn this atrocity, which targeted innocent lives in a situation that lacked the most basic standards of law and justice.
We express our full solidarity with the families of the victims and the people of Kobani in this painful time, and we affirm that what happened was a blatant violation of the right to life and a crime against humanity that must not be forgotten or tolerated.
We also stress that truth and justice are not only rights for the victims’ families, but also a moral and legal obligation for anyone who claims to represent or protect the people.
Mercy to the martyrs of the "Night of Treachery"—and to all martyrs of freedom.
Shame and disgrace upon the killers and the architects of this crime.
