Suwayda Hosts “Towards a Unified Syria” Conference to Promote National Dialogue
ARK News.. The city of Suwayda launched the “Towards a Unified Syria” conference yesterday, bringing together representatives from the Druze religious leadership, tribal elders, and various social and civil figures. The event aims to foster national dialogue and advance civil peace across Syria.
According to the local platform Al-Rassed, the conference hall witnessed open discussions and informal dialogues addressing political visions and societal divisions, as part of a grassroots initiative led by local activists.
In his keynote speech, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijari, one of the Druze spiritual leaders, stated:
“Our concerns are great, and many outsiders seek to sideline you. Our demands are the rightful claims of a victorious people—we present them to our partners in victory, not to foreign occupiers imposing their will.”
He emphasized unity of purpose: “We’re not seeking conflict with anyone. Our principle is cooperation with those who seek good. We have stood by Damascus from the beginning and have not wavered, even if others did. Our goal is the homeland and peace for its people.”
Al-Hijari concluded with a call for a nationally inclusive constitution: “Our hope is for a sound, civil, and patriotic constitution, built on the vision of the Syrian people and experts—a unifying demand worthy of thorough discussion.”
