President Barzani Discusses Syrian Situation with Prominent Arab Writers and Intellectuals

ARK News.. On Thursday, April 17, 2025, President Masoud Barzani received a delegation of Arab writers, poets, and intellectuals at his residence in Salahaddin. The visitors are in the Kurdistan Region to participate in the 17th Erbil International Book Fair.

During the meeting, the visiting delegation praised President Barzani’s historic role in the Kurdish people’s struggle and his enduring support for a culture of coexistence and stability. They also expressed admiration for the hospitality, tolerance, and respect for others they witnessed among the people of Kurdistan — calling it a distinguished and exemplary model in the region.

President Barzani warmly welcomed the delegation and shared a brief historical overview of the Kurdish liberation movement, the 1991 uprising, and the subsequent developments. He emphasized that the success of the Kurdistan Region’s experience is rooted in the spirit of forgiveness embraced by the Kurdish people after the uprising, who chose not to seek revenge but to open a new chapter in their political journey.

Addressing the current political climate in Iraq, President Barzani reaffirmed the need for all parties to adhere to the principles of partnership, balance, and consensus within the framework of the constitution as a means to resolve ongoing issues.

The conversation also covered pressing regional matters, including the situation in Syria. The attendees posed various questions and observations, which President Barzani addressed during the discussion.
