Hoshyar Zibari: Our Experience Enables Us to Support Our Brothers in Syria
ARK News.. Senior Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official Hoshyar Zebari emphasized that the political changes unfolding in Syria are only at their inception and warned that the repercussions of Syria’s political earthquake will inevitably impact neighboring countries. Drawing on the Kurdish experience in Iraq, he expressed readiness to assist the Kurdish people in Syria.
Speaking during the Sulaymaniyah Forum, Zibari — a member of the KDP's Political Bureau — stated:
"The agreement between Mazloum Abdi and Ahmad al-Sharaa, with support from us, our allies, neighboring countries, the United States, and France, was a highly significant step for Syrian Kurds to play a role in Syria’s political future."
He added:
"On December 8, 2024, a political earthquake struck Syria and the broader region. All neighboring countries will be affected by the ensuing changes, regardless of expectations."
Zibari went on to say:
"After fifty years of foreign intervention, internal repression, and regional instability, we are now entering a decisive phase that will shape the future of a new Syria — one that will differ fundamentally from the past. The steps taken by the current Syrian authorities are only the beginning. While I believe these measures are incomplete, they nevertheless represent a move toward greater inclusion and openness."
He concluded by affirming:
"Through our own experience, we are well-positioned to support our brothers and sisters in Syria during this critical period."
