Statement by the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party on the 34th Anniversary of the Glorious Uprising

Today marks an honorable day in the history of our people's liberation movement. Thirty-four years ago, the determined people of Kurdistan erupted like a volcano against injustice and repression, writing a new chapter in their long struggle.

The enduring history of our people's resistance—across all segments of society—has always been a source of pride for the Kurdish nation, the political movement, and successive generations. Our national and patriotic history is written in the sacrifices and unwavering stances of our loyal sons and daughters, who have stood as an unbreakable shield against oppression and tyranny. They have proven that the true power of the revolution and the uprising lies in the unity of the people alongside the Peshmerga forces.

One of the most decisive moments in our continued struggle was the spark of the glorious uprising on March 5, 1991. It ignited with the passionate participation of the people and the sacrifices of the Kurdish masses, following a strategic decision by the political leadership of the Kurdistan Front and the Kurdish political parties in the city of Rania—the gateway to the uprising.

This wave of resistance and revolution was a legitimate and just message of the Kurdish people, a necessity of the time, and a crucial step toward a new era. It laid the foundation for a significant milestone—the establishment of a new governance system in 1992, embodied in the Kurdistan Parliament and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), representing the true aspirations of the uprising’s people.

The path of institution-building, development, and reconstruction has not been easy. There continue to be various internal and external challenges facing this political entity, whether in the political, economic, or security spheres, as well as attempts to undermine and weaken it. However, through steadfast faith, the resilience and dedication of our people and political forces, and the sacrifices of our heroic Peshmerga, Kurdistan has remained an unyielding fortress—our homeland remains stable, thriving, and well-protected despite all pressures and conspiracies.

To the People of Kurdistan

On this glorious occasion, we in the Kurdistan Democratic Party, as always and in adherence to our principles, reaffirm the importance of strengthening unity within Kurdistan. We must stand together on strategic national issues, defend our constitutional rights, and work sincerely to resolve challenges, always prioritizing the collective interests of the Kurdish people. Our foremost mission remains the protection of our land, people, and national achievements.

The political landscape in the region, particularly in Iraq, is at a critical juncture, marked by significant changes. In this context, the leadership of the Kurdistan Region must focus on safeguarding our accomplishments while also working to resolve outstanding issues with the federal government. These include the constitutional rights and entitlements of Kurdistan, as well as other crucial matters that require legal and political resolution.

Now, more than ever, we need greater coordination and unity within the Kurdistan Region. Continued dialogue and negotiations with Baghdad are essential to achieving lasting solutions and preventing future crises.

On this occasion, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the supreme interests of our people and our national mission to uphold democracy, federalism, and political pluralism. We remain dedicated to serving the people, securing their rights, and improving economic conditions and daily life.

On the 34th anniversary of the Kurdistan Uprising, we bow in reverence to the martyrs of Kurdistan, particularly the immortal leader Mullah Mustafa Barzani and the late Idris Barzani.

Glory to the martyrs of the March 1991 uprising.

Honor to the fallen heroes of the Kurdish liberation movement.

May the 34th anniversary of the uprising be forever proud and glorious.
