ARK News.. A senior U.S. State Department official has confirmed that Washington will continue collaborating with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and supporting the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Samuel Warburg, the U.S. State Department’s regional spokesperson, stated, “The new administration of President Donald Trump will certainly continue to work with the Kurdistan Regional Government and strengthen bilateral relations.”

In an official statement, the State Department emphasized that Washington remains committed to backing the Peshmerga forces as part of the international coalition against ISIS.

Reuters previously reported that the Trump administration has urged Iraq to resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Region.

According to the report, “The Trump administration believes that exporting oil from the Kurdistan Region could contribute to lowering global oil prices.”

The report further highlighted that “The Trump administration is exerting pressure on Iraq to immediately restart Kurdistan's oil exports, warning of strict sanctions similar to those imposed on Iran.”

The U.S. aims to “isolate Iran from the global economy and reduce its oil revenues to zero,” while “Trump wants Iraq’s Prime Minister to sever economic ties with Tehran,” according to Reuters.

Regarding U.S. pressure on Iraq to resume Kurdistan’s oil exports, a White House official told Reuters that “This move is not only crucial for enhancing regional security but also contributes to reducing gasoline prices.”
