Kurdistan Region Security Council: The PKK attempted to assassinate Akram Saleh, official of Branch 22 of the Kurdistan Democratic Party
ARK News.. The Kurdistan Regional Security Council confirmed that the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) targeted the car of a high ranking party official in Kalar town, with a time bomb.
The Kurdistan Region Security Council said in a statement: “For some time now, the subversive groups of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) have been trying, in a programmed manner, to intimidate the citizens of the Kurdistan Region and assassinate members and leaders of political parties in the Kurdistan Region, and through these aggressive practices, they are causing damage to the property of the citizens of the region.”
The Kurdistan Region Security Council added: “In their latest aggressive action, on July 15, 2024, they targeted the car of a high-ranking party official in Kalar town, using a time bomb.”
The statement said: "Those sabotage groups, over the past three years, targeted citizens and members of the Kurdistan Defence Forces. Some were martyred, while their other attempts failed."
The Council added: "These groups did not stop there. Rather, they expressed their hatred by burning public places, markets, and malls in the Kurdistan Region and other regions, and causing harm to merchants and citizens of the Kurdistan Region."
He stressed: "These groups have become effective and active in drug smuggling and promotion, and illegal activities in the region and at the international level."
The Kurdistan Regional Security Council stressed during its statement: “The dominance of the Kurdistan Workers Party’s subversive groups endangers the future of the region regionally and internationally, and will cause negative and undesirable reactions. The continuation of these practices will not go unanswered, and the leadership of these groups is responsible for any consequences and reactions.”
On Monday, July 15, 2024, Akram Saleh, the official of Branch 22 of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Garmiyan, survived an assassination attempt in front of his house.
