ARK News.. Dozens of families of kidnapped children by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) demanded that their minor children be returned to their arms, stressing that their place is in school and not in conscription camps.

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, dozens of families of minor children who were kidnapped by the militants of the Revolutionary Youth Movement affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) demonstrated in front of the Revolutionary Youth Centre building in Qamishlo city, Syrian Kurdistan.

According to local sources, the families demanded that the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Kobani abide by his pledges with the United Nations and return their children to their arms.

Local sources added that the families confirmed that children belong to the arms of their families and in school seats, not in recruitment and military centres.

Antonio Gutierrez, Secretary-General of the United Nations, said during a report entitled “Children and Armed Conflict” issued on June 3, 2024 that the Syrian Democratic Forces and parties affiliated with it recruited (462) children in the areas they control during the year 2023.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Gutierrez, expressed his concern about the worsening recruitment and use of children at the hands of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and called for the implementation of the action plan signed by Mazloum Kobani, the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with the United Nations representative for children and armed conflict, Virginia Gamba, in 2019 in order to Ending and preventing the recruitment of children under the age of 18 and not using them in military operations.
