Statement by the Kurdish National Council regarding the kidnapping of journalist Marwan Hussein Liyani by PYD militants
ARK News… The General Secretariat of the Kurdish National Council issued a statement about the kidnapping of journalist Marwan Hussein Liyani by an armed group affiliated with the PYD in the town of Girke Legi in the Hasakah Governorate of Syrian Kurdistan.
The Kurdish National Council in Syria called on community organizations and the international coalition to work to prevent these repeated acts of terror on a daily basis.
Below is the text of the statement:
On April 1, 2024, the journalist Marwan Hussein Liyani was kidnapped at his workplace in the town of Girke Lage in Hasakah Governorate by an armed group affiliated with the Democratic Union Party (PDP). He was taken to an unknown destination, and his fate, like his predecessors who were kidnapped, was not known until now. This comes as a continuation of intimidating practices against supporters of the Kurdish National Council and adopting a policy of gagging mouths and suppressing other opinions.
It is worth noting that the journalist Marwan Liani is a member of the Girke Lakki local council of the Kurdish National Council and works as an independent journalist.
The Kurdish National Council strongly condemns these acts of terror and violations that contradict the most basic human rights, and calls on community organizations and the international coalition to work to prevent these repeated acts of terror on a daily basis.
He stresses that these practices will not discourage the Kurdish National Council from continuing its struggle until the national rights of the Kurdish people are achieved.
