Nechirvan Barzani and Antonio Guterres meet in Germany

ARK News… The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, on Friday, 16/2/2024, stressed that peace and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region are important for the entire region.

On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, met with Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and they discussed the security and political challenges facing Iraq and the region in general.

According to a statement by the Kurdistan Region Presidency, the two sides agreed that peace and stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region are important for the entire region, and Iraq’s security and sovereignty must be protected and involvement in the ongoing conflict in the region must not be allowed.

The two parties stressed that at a time when the region is going through a sensitive security situation, everyone must control themselves and help calm the situation and maintain stability.


Barzani praised the presence and role of the United Nations and its assistance to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and appreciated the work and activities of the UN team in Iraq.

For his part, Guterres thanked President Nechirvan Barzani for his positive role in the political process in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
