"Military Police" arrests a number of citizens in Afrin
ARK News... The city of Afrin, in Syrian Kurdistan, witnessed the arrest of a number of Kurdish citizens by members of the military police in the “National Army” of the “Syrian Interim Government.”
Private sources reported to the ARK News that the military police arrested three Kurdish civilians on February 3, namely:
- Hassan Sheikho Sheikho (goldsmith) from the village of Dudu in Rajo town and residing in the city center of Afrin.
- Ahmed Muhammad Kahrabji (54 years old), from the village of Shaitana in the Mabata district and residing in the Afrin center.
- Mustafa Ahmed Kahrabaji from the village of Shaitana and residing in the city center of Afrin.
According to the sources, on February 7th, members of the military police in the city of Afrin arrested the Kurdish citizen, Zuhair Hanan, from the village of Kafr Zeit: “because of his presence in the square of the Newroz roundabout during the motorcycle bombing.”
The sources added that the “Political Security” intelligence personnel present in the city of Afrin arrested, on January 27, 2024, the young man Khaled Muhammad Waqas, from the village of Brimja in the Mabata district, in front of Dersim Hospital: “His wife was in the delivery room and he was going to buy medicine for her.”
Arrests and detention cases during 2023
Kurdish media revealed the documentation of the arrest and detention of 344 people in the Afrin region of Syrian Kurdistan during the year 2023.
According to the documentation of the “Rebaz News” website, last year witnessed, during the period extending between January and December, 344 cases of forced detention of Kurdish civilians in the city of Afrin and its countryside, distributed among the military and civilian police and armed groups.
According to ARK News monitoring and information received from its sources in Afrin, a number of detainees were released in exchange for paying the ransom.
