ARK News… The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, recalled the 20th anniversary of the martyrs of the February 1 tragedy in Erbil, calling for their memory to be made a basis for unity, harmony and acceptance of others.

The President of the Kurdistan Region said in a post on the “X” platform, today, Thursday: “Today we proudly remember our comrades and colleagues, the immortal martyrs of February 1st, and we bow in reverence and honor to them.”

He added: "The martyrs were a group of prominent and competent cadres of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, other parties, and the people of Kurdistan. They were the target of a black terrorist crime. Let us make their memory a basis for unity, harmony, acceptance of others, and joint work to better serve the present and the future of our people and our country."

Today, the ceremony to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the martyrs of February 1 began in Erbil, in the presence of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani.

During the ceremony, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government laid a wreath at the memorial to the victims of the tragedy.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Kurdistan Region Presidency, a number of government ministers and senior officials in the region, consuls of countries, and families of the martyrs of the tragedy.

The family of the martyr Peshraw Dizayi also attended and laid a wreath, bearing the picture of the martyr Peshraw and his daughter, the martyr Gina, on the memorial to the martyrs of the tragedy.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the tragedy of February 1, 2004, in the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.

Two suicide terrorists targeted the recipients and well-wishers of Eid al-Adha in both the building of the second branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the third center of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Party, and led to the martyrdom and wounding of dozens of leaders of the two parties, their cadres, citizens, media figures, and from various segments of society, who had gathered to congratulate Eid.

The Kurdistan Regional Government established a memorial to the martyrs of the disaster and the martyrs of the Kurdistan liberation movement in Martyr Sami Abdul Rahman Park, “one of the martyrs of the terrorist crime and who was at the time holding the position of Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government” in Erbil.
