Statement from the Kurdistan Region Security Council regarding the missile strike on Erbil
ARK News… The Kurdistan Region Security Council issued a statement regarding several areas in Erbil being bombarded with ballistic missiles by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
The Kurdistan Region Security Council said, in a statement seen by ARK News: “At 11:30 pm on the night of January 15, 2024, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard launched several ballistic missiles towards civilian areas in Erbil.”
It added: “Unfortunately, according to preliminary statistics, the bombing resulted in the martyrdom of four citizens and the injury of six others. Some of the injured are in critical condition.”
The statement continued: “The Revolutionary Guard announced that the bombing targeted sites belonging to the Iranian opposition. This is a baseless excuse and we reject it.”
The Kurdistan Region Security Council noted that, “Unfortunately, baseless arguments and pretexts are constantly being used to target Erbil,” explaining that “Erbil, as a stable region, has never been a source of threat to any party.”
In conclusion, he stressed that targeting “represents a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, and the federal government and the international community must not remain silent about this crime.”
