Casualties in clashes over the right to seize Kurdish property in the Afrin countryside

Nov 02 2023

ARK News… Clashes broke out between gunmen within the "Sultan Murad" faction, resulting in casualties two days ago in the countryside of the city of Afrin in Syrian Kurdistan.

An informed source told ARK that “arms confrontations broke out on October 30, 2023, in the village of” Qurnê” in the Bilbile town, between the militants of Murad Abu Walid Al-Ezzi and his cousin Hijab Faisal Al-Ezzi, due to the seizure of the olive harvest belonging to the displaced or absent Kurds.”

He continued, "The clashes that took place in the village left a number of wounded on both sides, and included a state of alert between the two sides that extended until yesterday, in addition to a state of panic and fear among civilians in the village."

With the start of the olive season, the armed men impose three types of taxes:

Displaced people in Shahba: Their entire crops and property are seized under the pretext that they are supporters of the PYD administration.

Refugees in Turkey, Lebanon, and the Kurdistan Region: varying proportions from one village to another.

10 percent for farmers in Afrin.

Civilians in Afrin and its countryside are groaning from continuous violations and armed incidents, amid demands for the necessity of ending armed manifestations within populated areas.
