ARK News... Today, Monday, October 16, 2023, marks the twenty-first anniversary of the passing of Haitham Kajo, the star of Al-Jihad Football Club and the top scorer for the Syrian national team, following a traffic accident involving his club bus on its way to Deir Ez-Zour.

Haitham Kajo was born on March 23, 1976 in the Assyrian neighborhood in the city of Qamishlo in Syrian Kurdistan. He studied primary school at Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi School, and his name became prominent among Qamishlo schools. He played in the Tasaddi team, which was considered one of the strongest popular teams in the city.

In 1991, he played with the Al-Jihad Club, and in 1992-1993, he played with the youth team.

In the 1994-1995 season, he won the Youth League championship with Al-Jihad Club and was the top scorer with 25 goals. The following season, he won the league's top scorer title with 24 goals.

Kajo's participation with the national teams in the youth category began in 1994, when the Syrian team won the Asian Youth Cup title. In 2000, he was called up to represent the “first national team”, but he was removed and only played some friendly matches.

The star Haitham Kajo returned to play with Al-Jihad Club in 1998-1999 after he finished playing with Al-Shorta Club due to his “military service”, and he won the title of top scorer in the Syrian League in 1998/1999 and third top scorer in the Arab League in 1999/2000.

On October 16, 2002, the Al-Jihad Club bus was on its way to the city of Deir Ez-Zour in preparation for its match with Al-Mayadeen Club in the fifth round of the Syrian Football Championship for the second division. A few kilometers before the city of Deir ez-Zor, the tire of the bus exploded and overturned. The accident led to the death of star Haitham Kajo and the bus driver, and the injury of three other players and the team administrator with various fractures.

The sudden passing of star Haitham Kajo was a shock to his fans and fans, and thousands of people from Qamishlo participated in his funeral and condolence ceremonies.
