PYD administration raises rents for offices in the tourist neighborhood in Qamishlo amid tenants’ refusal

ARK News… In light of the difficult economic conditions, the PYD administration raised the rents of commercial offices in the tourist neighborhood in the center of the city of Qamishlo in Syrian Kurdistan.

On Sunday, October 15, 2023, ARK obtained a copy of a receipt issued by the Qamishlo Municipality, which is affiliated with the PYD administration, stating that a sum of money amounting to one million and four hundred thousand Syrian pounds had been received, in exchange for rent and leasing one office during the year 2023 in the tourist area near the municipal stadium.

According to the information received, the increase in annual rental prices for these offices and commercial spaces has dissatisfied many merchants and tenants, who see it as unacceptably heavy and a threat to the sustainability of their businesses.

In this context, economists said that imposing these exorbitant sums of money on tenants may lead to the closure of some offices, due to the inability to bear these financial burdens. This may negatively affect commercial activity in the city and lead to the loss of some job opportunities.

It should be noted that the PYD Party administration, which controls Syrian Kurdistan, occasionally imposes taxes and large sums of money on the owners of shops and factories without taking into account the difficult living conditions of citizens and the economic situation that the country is going through as a result of the significant rise in the value of the exchange rate of foreign currencies against the national currency.
