Turkey’s targeting of vital centers exacerbates the electricity crisis in Syrian Kurdistan

ARK News… The electricity situation in Syrian Kurdistan is going from bad to worse, especially after Turkey’s military air operation on vital centers in Syrian Kurdistan, as electricity has become almost completely lost in the majority of the cities and towns of Syrian Kurdistan.

Local sources from Syrian Kurdistan reported that after Turkey targeted electricity stations in Syrian Kurdistan, “Al-Suwaidiya station, Maysaloun neighborhood station in Qamishlo, Amouda station, Tal Ziwan station in Qamishlo, Western Dam station in Hasakah,” electricity was cut off in most cities and towns of Syrian Kurdistan.

Local sources confirmed that electricity was almost cut off from Derik and its countryside, Tirbaspiye and its countryside, the majority of Qamishlo neighborhoods, the majority of Hasakah neighborhoods, Amouda and its countryside, and Derbasiye and its countryside, as citizens have been living for 4 days without electricity, which is the main source for many daily living needs.

The Kurdish National Council in Syria said in a statement that causing damage to service facilities, electricity, gas and water stations, infrastructure, and others led to the cessation of the work of hospitals and created a fuel crisis, which will double the suffering of people in these difficult circumstances, create more anxiety and instability, and push the people of the region to more immigration as a result.

Before Turkey launched the military air operation on the cities and towns of Syrian Kurdistan, and because of the PYD administration’s evasion of providing electricity to citizens, citizens were suffering from a loss of electricity for (20-22) hours per day, which prompted people to search for a new source to provide electrical energy. Instead of taking responsibility, the PYD administration promotes the solar panels that it supplied through dealers affiliated with it.

Turkey launched its military air operation on 5/10/2023 against vital sites, centers, facilities and infrastructure of Syrian Kurdistan. According to media agencies, so far more than 100 vital sites and centers have been targeted.
