ARK News… The poet and artist Nizar Youssef recently published a new work in the Kurdish language entitled “Zagros, Bells of Civilization... Music and Creativity.”

In a special statement to ARK News, today, October 4, 2023, the poet Nizar Youssef said, “The book consists of two chapters and is 289 pages. Soon it will be in the hands of readers and those interested.”

Regarding the content of the book, Youssef stated, “The first chapter talks about musical instruments throughout prehistoric times in the regions of ancient Iran, and the role of the creative ancestors of the Kurds in the regions of the Zagros Mountains and Mesopotamia and their ancient civilizations, and their influence on neighboring peoples. It is also about the Achaemenid period and the Greek campaign” led by Alexander the Great, until AD.

He added: “The second chapter, from the period of birth to the end of the twentieth century. It talks about art and music in the Sasanian period, the coming of the Arab invasions, and what was taken from the Sassanid legacy. The Abbasid period and the role of creative Kurdish musicians in its prosperity and the spread of their products to North Africa to Andalusia, and then the period The Kurdish Emirates, the Safavid and Ottoman states, and the contributions of Kurdish creators to music and building civilization.

Nizar Youssef is a Kurdish poet and artist, born in the village of Biroj in Derik city in Syrian Kurdistan in 1960.
