Ten demands... Letter from the Kurdistan Region representative to ENKS regarding Afrin to the United Nations
ARK News... Condemning the Jenderes massacre, which claimed the lives of four members of the Peshmerg family, the martyrs of the Newroz night in the city of Jenderes in the countryside of Afrin, in Syrian Kurdistan, by the gunmen of the Jaysh Al Sharqiya Eastern Army, the representative of the Kurdistan Region of the Kurdish National Council in Syria on Sunday, March 26, 2023, organized a protest in front of the headquarters of the United Nations in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region. The representative handed over a letter to the United Nations headquarters in ten demands regarding the situation in the city of Afrin and its countryside. Here is the text of the message:
The message of the Kurdistan Region representative to the Kurdish National Council in Erbil… delivered to the UN Office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio
Guterres...
The honorable Mr. Antonio Guterres
Secretary-General of the United Nations
Gentlemen, president and members of the General Assembly of the United Nations the respected
Distinguished president and members of the UN Security Council,
Greetings and appreciation:
The Jaysh Al Sharqiya Eastern Army faction affiliated with the National Army in the city of Jenderes in the countryside of Afrin committed a heinous crime on the night of the celebration of Newroz fire on 20-3-2023 against a Kurdish family, its militia killed four young men as martyrs, and another young man died of his wounds in the hospital, and several others were wounded. Some of them are serious.
Honorable Secretary-General of the United Nations
We do not believe that this crime is an individual act. Rather, it comes in the context of a series of grave violations committed by some of these groups against the Kurds, which were documented by the United Nations Impartial International Committee. It seems that the goal of these groups is to fight the Kurds, harass them and push them to emigrate for the purpose of demographic change, and prevent them even from celebrating. Their national holiday, which the coalition approved as a national holiday and an official holiday, being the political umbrella for the factions affiliated with the Free Patriotic Army, they were not allowed to celebrate it even though their wounds did not heal as a result of the devastating earthquake that occurred on the sixth of last February.
Instead of our Kurdish people in Afrin, Jenderes, and elsewhere celebrating Newroz, thousands of them participated in demonstrations denouncing the crime of this terrorist act and buried the martyrs.
We want to inform you, your Excellency, that this heinous crime is not the first to be committed against the Kurds in the areas of influence of these factions. Rather, the Kurds have been subjected to grave violations for five years now.
We, in the Kurdistan Region's representation of the Kurdish National Council in Syria, condemn in the strongest terms this crime, and we look forward to the bodies of the international community interacting with this event so that such crimes do not recur in the future, and to move swiftly to bring justice to the perpetrators.
We demand that you respond to our humanitarian call by achieving the following:
1- Holding the perpetrators of the “Jaysh Al Sharqiya (Eastern Army)” faction accountable and handing them over to trials outside the opposition areas, whether regional or international.
2- Removing the military factions from cities and towns, preventing fighters from entering them with their weapons, and stopping their hand from tampering with the lives of civilians.
3- Returning people's property stolen from them.
4- Whitewashing the prisons of the factions from the detainees and transferring them to fair civil courts.
5- Stop tampering with the environment, culture, and history by cutting down olive trees and stealing and looting antiquities.
6- Handing over the administration of Afrin and its villages to local councils from the residents of the same region.
7- Facilitating the return of the displaced Kurdish population to their homes and the return of immigrants to their places.
8- Activating local councils and granting them real powers.
9- The civilian police shall protect cities and towns, while the military police shall monitor the entry of military personnel into the towns and prevent the entry of weapons.
10- Revealing the fate of thousands of unlawfully detained Kurdish detainees in the prisons of the factions, and taking the initiative to release them immediately.
With much thanks and appreciation to your Excellency
Representation of the Kurdistan Region of the Kurdish National Council in Syria
