Nechirvan Barzani and the Italian ambassador discuss ways to strengthen relations with Italy

The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, on Saturday, March 18, 2023, received the Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Maurizio Grigante, and discussed "ways to strengthen Iraq and the Kurdistan Region's relations with Italy, the relations of Erbil and Baghdad, and the ongoing dialogue to solve outstanding problems between them."

Barzani expressed his thanks and appreciation for the Italian support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and pointed out that the relations between Erbil and Baghdad prevail in a positive atmosphere, and that the steps taken by the Iraqi federal government so far are a source of optimism and satisfaction.

Barzani stressed that Baghdad is a major partner of the Kurdistan Region and that the two sides have no way but to solve the outstanding problems between them.

For his part, the Italian ambassador described President Nechirvan Barzani's meeting with his country's foreign minister at the Munich conference last February as "positive", and stressed that resolving the outstanding problems between Erbil and Baghdad will lead to "increasing the international community's interest in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and will expand the horizons and areas for the operation of capital, and foreign investments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

An overview of Italy's work and activities in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region was also presented, and a group of issues of common concern was discussed.
