Al-Hasaka... The poor living situation forces children to eat from garbage
ARK News... In light of the poor living conditions, the collapse of the exchange rate of the Syrian pound against the dollar, and the spread of unemployment, the phenomenon of children digging up garbage and eating from it has spread in the city of Hasaka in Syrian Kurdistan.
Children search the streets of Al-Hasaka for what can be found and sold, whether plastic or other materials and when they find something to eat, they eat it in front of passers-by in the city market without embarrassment.
This comes at a time when cholera has spread in Al-Hasaka, and the sources of clean and potable water have decreased.
According to the sources, these children leave their homes on the outskirts of the city before sunrise and do not return until nightfall, and they barely get a bundle of bread and some milk from what they have earned.
Plastic merchants in al-Hasaka exploit these children and buy from them at a low price, without any moral deterrent.
The sources confirm that behind every child there is a tragedy, they are orphans and have no breadwinner, or their parents suffer from a disability as a result of the war.
The sources pointed out that charities and relief institutions in Al-Hasakah do not play any positive role in alleviating this phenomenon.
Activists and observers in Syrian Kurdistan believe that since the PYD administration took power from the Assad regime, and until now, as a result of its policies, crises continue without solutions.
