"The United States stands with our partners in condemnation of the repeated rocket and mortar attacks directed at the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, including three attacks in Sulaimaniyah in the last four days on oil and gas infrastructure," Ned Price, a spokes
The US has condemned the recent rocket attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region's key gas field of Khor Mor in Sulaimaniyah province, calling for investigations into the attacks.
The Khor Mor gas field, which is run by the UAE-based Dana Gas in Chamchamal district, was targeted with a rocket attack on Saturday, for the third time since last Wednesday.
He further argued that "these attacks are designed to undermine economic stability just as they seek to challenge Iraqi sovereignty, sow division, and intimidate," stressing that "they must be investigated and those responsible must be prosecuted."
The spokesperson also reiterated Washington's commitment to continuing to stand with the Iraqi people, "including our partners in the Kurdistan Region, against this kind of unacceptable violence, and we will continue to seek every opportunity to support Iraq’s security and prosperity."
Dana Gas confirmed last week that two people were injured in Wednesday's rocket attack against the Khor Mor gas field, but that the incident did not affect operations at the field.
Kurdistan Region Deputy PM Qubad Talabani last night led a Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) delegation that included the Peshmerga Minister and the Acting Minister of Natural Resources to the Khor Mor field.
Ensuring the senior management of UAE-based Dana Gas, Talabani pointed out that the rocket attacks will not affect gas production at the key gas field, and that the KRG will communicate with the federal government in an effort to put an end to such rocket attacks.
The KRG, in the meantime, works on protecting the lives of the company’s staff, the deputy prime minister added during his visit to the Khor Mor gas field.
