ARK News… The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, said in an interview with the Russian "Novosti" agency, that the strategic interests of Russia and the United States regarding Syria are identical, and expressed his hope that there will be more cooperation between the two countries.

Guterres explained: "There is, as we know, a complex past, in the history of the relations between the United States and Russia regarding Syria. But, in my opinion, the strategic interests of the United States and Russia with respect to Syria are the same, so I hope that there will be a more active dialogue and stronger cooperation between the two countries. This will allow us to move towards a political solution to the Syrian crisis."

The Secretary-General of the United Nations pointed out that the decision to extend the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria through the border crossing "Bab al-Hawa", which was reached last July at the UN Security Council, was the result of negotiations between Moscow and Washington, noting that he was the one who proposed this during his visit to Moscow in Last May, he also discussed it with the US administration.

He said, "I would be pleased if they (Russia and the United States) reached an agreement based on the ideas I presented on the delivery of humanitarian aid across the border, and on the delivery of humanitarian aid across the lines of communication, as well as on the need to provide support to the Syrian people in various fields."

The Russian ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, had previously expressed his confidence that Russian and American diplomats would reach a compromise on the issue of border crossings in Syria, at a time when Russia is working to use the food of millions of civilians in northwest Syria as a negotiating card.
