An important message from President Masoud Barzani to the people of Kurdistan
There is a huge difference between the Kurdistan Region and Afghanistan, as the Peshmerga forces and the Army of Afghanistan are very different, said Kurdish prominent leader Masoud Barzani.
The former president of the Kurdistan Region issued a statement on Sunday to rule out political and media speculations casting doubts on the future of Kurdistan by comparing it with Afghanistan after the latter was taken over by the Taliban last week.
Barzani rejected any such analysis of the current situation and reminded that Kurdistan is a nation that possesses “will and cause” while the Peshmerga forces have also proven themselves in defending the nation at times of hardship.
He emphasized that major historical victories like the Korre Battle, the war against the Islamic State, and the sacrifices made in Pirde when the Shia militias overran Kurdistan in 2017, all prove the invalidity of any comparison between the army of Kurdistan and that of Afghanistan.
“I would like to reassure the people of Kurdistan that the situation in Kurdistan is very different from any other place. We have our brave Peshmerga forces, and above all, we are a nation that possesses will and cause,” Barzani added.
“When the enemies and adversaries wished harming the people of Kurdistan, it has never been easy for them. Certainly, it will never be easy in the future either.”
The speculations, mainly media analysis, caused concern among the public by claiming that in case of any US withdrawal from the Kurdistan Region, it could face a similar fate like Afghanistan.
