Aug 02 2021

Iraqi forces and Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga fighters are expected to form two joint brigades for operations in the territories disputed between Erbil and Baghdad, a Kurdish official revealed on Sunday.

Speaking to BasNews, Abdul Khaliq Tal’at, the representative of the Kurdistan Region’s ministries of Peshmerga and Interior at Iraqi Operations Command in Baghdad, pointed out that the two sides will complete their training before conducting any joint operations.

After the completion of the training, the two joint brigades will carry out operations against the Islamic State (IS) in the disputed areas in the near future.

Erbil and Baghdad have already established a number of joint operations centers in the disputed territories where the Islamic State used to enjoy a security vacuum for years.
