ARK News… The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in coordination with the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, on Tuesday, held a high-level donor meeting aimed at strengthening the livelihoods of Syrians under temporary protection and host communities.

The meeting was held in the Turkish capital, Ankara, in the presence of the representative of the "FAO" organization in Turkey, Viorel Goto, Yuichi Mikami, undersecretary of the Japanese Embassy, Libor Clad, head of the European Union delegation to the Turkish Financial Assistance Program for Refugees in Turkey, ministry officials and a number of guests.

In his speech, Goto explained that the FAO is conducting a strategic discussion with Turkey on how to enhance the sustainable livelihoods of Syrians under temporary protection and host communities.

He noted that the organization has been cooperating closely with Turkey to meet the needs of asylum seekers in the field of agriculture since 2017.

He added that their experiences and their work in this field with their partners in Turkey enabled them to respond proactively to the Syrian crisis and its impact on host communities.

He indicated that from 2017 until today, the organization has implemented 10 successful projects with the support of the institutions of the European Union and Japan, expressing his thanks to all the contributors.

In turn, the undersecretary of the Japanese Embassy in Ankara said that Turkey played an important role in resolving the humanitarian crisis in Syria, noting that the humanitarian situation there has turned into a very big crisis.

Mikami stressed the importance of providing aid to those in need, developing their skills and capabilities, and providing livelihoods for refugees.

Turkey is a major transit point for irregular migrants aiming to move to Europe and start a new life, especially those fleeing war and persecution.

Since the outbreak of their country's bloody civil war in 2011, Turkey has taken in millions of fleeing Syrians, making it the world's largest refugee-hosting country.
