ARK News… The UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pederson, on Monday, June 14, 2021, condemned the bloody attack that targeted a hospital in the Afrin city center in Syrian Kurdistan.

Commenting on this, Pederson said, in a statement, that "such horrific attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, including health care facilities and workers, are unacceptable and must stop."

Pederson called on "all parties to fully comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law, including to protect civilians and civilian objects," and reiterated UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' calls for "the need for accountability for the crimes committed in Syria."

"This attack and continued violence underscores, once again, the importance of establishing a nationwide ceasefire in Syria, and renewed efforts to make progress in implementing Security Council Resolution 2254 of 2015," Pederson added.
Resolution 2254 issued on December 18, 2015, calls on all parties to immediately stop launching attacks against civilian targets and urges Security Council member states to support efforts to achieve a ceasefire.
