ARK News… Local sources confirmed that there are dozens of daily cases of poisoning among the displaced from the city of Sari Kaniye in the Washokani camp, which is run by the PYD, and the medical point in the “Washokani” camp for the displaced from the city of Sari Kaniye in Syrian Kurdistan receives daily dozens of poisoning cases.

According to what was published by the BasNews website, Dr. Wael Ahmed, a pediatrician in the camp, said: We receive at the medical point in Washokani camp between 15 to 20 cases of poisoning daily, due to water pollution and high temperatures.

The doctor added: The high temperatures and various sources of water, some of which are considered polluted and unfit for human use, are behind the poisoning cases.

For their part, local sources confirmed to ARK News that the Washokani camp is supplied with drinking water from a well in the village of Shamuka on the Tel Tamer-Hasaka road, according to a contract between the camp administration of the PYD, and some owners of private tanks, since there are no pipes to transport drinking water from the Alok station to the camp.

The sources added: The problem of poisoning arises because the owners of the tanks fill their tanks from wells nearby, other than the village of Shamuka, and its water is not suitable for drinking, taking advantage of the absence of monitoring by the camp administration. This water causes health problems for adults as well, but children are more at risk because of the polluted water.

According to what the camp residents confirm, the water they depend on for drinking and other uses is polluted, and the tanks are open and have no covers. They are full of dirt and worms and are often bitter and salty.

While Dr. Wael Ahmed indicated that the water needs a period of time after the sterilization process to become usable.

Washokani camp is located in the town of “Tuwaina” on the road to Tel Tamer- Hasaka, and it shelters more than 11,000 displaced people from the city of Sari Kaniye.
