Described as "theatrical"... Assad is officially running for the presidential elections

Apr 22 2021

ARK News… The President of the Syrian regime, Bashar Al-Assad, has submitted his candidacy papers to the Supreme Constitutional Court for the presidential elections scheduled for the twenty-sixth of next May.

The President of the Syrian People’s Assembly, Hamoude Sabbagh, on Wednesday announced in a session broadcast on Syrian state television that the council “is informed by the Supreme Constitutional Court that Bashar Hafez al-Assad has submitted a nomination request to the position of President of the Republic, which is the sixth nomination request in the presidential elections.

The Syrian People's Assembly announced last April that "the door for candidacy for the presidential elections has been opened, and its date has been set for May 26th, provided that Syrian citizens abroad vote on the 20th of the same month."

The door to candidacy for the elections will close within 11 days, and the rules for the Syrian elections stipulate that the presidential candidate has lived in Syria for at least the last 10 years.

The elections will take place while a political-military crisis has continued in Syria since 2011, killing hundreds of thousands and displacing millions.

The Syrian opposition forces condemned the announcement of the presidential elections in Syria, describing them as "theatrical."
