ARK News… The Martyrs Documentation Office in Daraa has published the outcome of the governorate’s martyrs who were killed as a result of assassinations or clashes and torture in the regime’s prisons, as well as the outcome of arrests carried out by the various security branches in the past year.

The specialized office in documenting what is happening in Daraa Governorate said that the governorate witnessed in the second half of 2018 the control of the regime forces over the entire governorate, after the factions joined the so-called “settlement” agreement, and accordingly, the military operations and bombing stopped completely, and the number of martyrs and victims has decreased to a minimum since the beginning of the Syrian revolution.

The office indicated that the year 2020 witnessed a continuation of the fall of martyrs and victims and a very large increase in the frequency of assassinations, in conjunction with the continuing operations of arrests, disappearances, and the forcible disappearance of civilians and fighters of the "settlement" factions, as well as of the dissidents who joined the agreement.

The office documented 275 martyrs in 2020, a rise of 25% over the number of martyrs during the past year 2019, out of this total number of martyrs, 26 were killed while they were outside Daraa governorate, most of them during clashes against the regime forces in the governorates of northwestern Syria.

Males made up 96.4% of the total number of martyrs, and the percentage of children among males was 9.8%, while the percentage of females was 0.7% of the total number of martyrs, and its percentage among children was 3%, according to the office.

The Martyrs' Documentation Office in Daraa documented during the year 2020 a total of 409 operations and assassination attempts, which killed 269 people and wounded 102 others, while 38 people survived the assassination attempts.

The arrests, disappearances, and forced disappearances were one of the most prominent ongoing violations committed by the regime forces during the year 2020, affecting both civilians and former opposition fighters who joined the "settlement agreement". 751 people during the year 2020, including 17 women and 5 children. 201 of them were released later in the year, while 3 of them died under torture or in illegal conditions of detention in the prisons of the regime forces.
