Pederson meets with Zarif in Tehran and discusses developments in Syria with him

ARK News… The UN special envoy to Syria, "Geir Pederson," met with the Iranian Foreign Minister, "Muhammad Javad Zarif" in the Iranian capital, Tehran, to discuss the Syrian file.

According to a statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the two sides exchanged views on the political process and recent developments in Syria.

The ministry stated that "Zarif" called for the lifting of sanctions against the Assad regime, and claimed that appropriate opportunities were available during the past years to end the "crisis" in Syria, but it was thwarted by some countries.

The ministries indicated that the UN envoy to Syria briefed "Zarif" on the developments in the work of the Constitutional Committee, and his efforts to hold the next meeting in Geneva.

Pederson had met with Russian Foreign Minister "Sergey Lavrov" two days ago in Moscow, at which time they discussed the file of the Syrian Constitutional Committee and the latest developments related to Syria.

The fourth round of talks of the Syrian Constitutional Committee is scheduled to be held on November 30 in Geneva and will continue until December 4.
