ARK News… Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani condemned Saturday’s attack on the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) office in Baghdad where the Kurdistan flag was burned, saying he had discussed the issue with his Iraqi counterpart.

Earlier in the day, several dozens of supporters of the Shia militias, known as Hashd al-Shaabi or Popular Mobilization Forces, stormed KDP’s 5th representation office in Baghdad and set fire to the building after burning the Kurdistan flag.

PM Barzani said in a statement that burning the most sacred value of the people of Kurdistan and setting fire to the office of a political party that has paid the most to topple dictatorship in Iraq, “is a blatant attack on the democratic values, peaceful coexistence, and social peace in a federal Iraq.”

“I strongly condemn today’s violent attack on the KDP office in Baghdad and the burning of the Kurdistan flag. I have spoken to PM Mustafa al-Kadhimi and called for an immediate investigation and for the outlaws responsible to be held to account,” the prime minister of the Kurdistan Region said.

The attack comes amid international pressures on Iraq for its failure to protect the diplomatic missions, political representations, and the press.

Washington has already warned Iraq that it is taking into consideration the withdrawal of its embassy from Baghdad if the government of Iraq fails to stop regular rocket attacks by Iran-backed militias against the US interests in the country.
