Sep 22 2020

ARK News… The regime's intelligence services arrested a university student from the Swayda governorate, while he was on his way to the capital, Damascus, because of his writings, publications expressing his opinion on his Facebook page.

The Network reported, quoting its sources, that the incident of arresting the student, "Qais Noraddin Na’em," occurred on Sunday at the Palais des Congress checkpoint so that he was transferred to the regime's Political Security Division.

It indicated that "Na’em" is a university student at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Damascus, and he was going to his college when he was arrested, and there is no criminal charge that calls for his arrest, as he is known for his good behavior and morals, according to what the Network quoted its sources as saying.

It explained that the information received by his family indicates that he was arrested as a result of the existence of an arrest warrant for the Political Security branch, affiliated with the Assad regime, for writing publications expressing his political opinion on "Facebook."

"Sweida 24" reported an increase in the rate of arrests and security summons of citizens from the governorate, against the background of their political views, during this year, in the wake of protests calling for political change and the improvement of the living situation in the country, according to a report it stated, on Monday.

The Assad regime had separated hundreds of employees from the people of Swayda province since the start of the Syrian revolution in 2011, as there are lists containing the names of hundreds of those dismissed, either because of their failure to reserve and compulsory services, in the ranks of the regime’s army or because of their views, which is the largest percentage, according to what the Network mentioned earlier.

Earlier, the Head of the Public Prosecution Office for Information and Communication Crimes affiliated with the regime, "Hiba Allah Sefo", had approved a law stipulating imprisonment for at least six months and a fine estimated between two thousand and ten thousand Syrian pounds for every Syrian who broadcasts false news abroad that undermines the prestige of the state. Inside or outside the country, as it described.

At the time, the decision sparked a lot of cynical reactions, as the law itself punished with temporary hard labor, from 3 years to 15 years, and this is appreciated by the branches of the regime for those who publish false news related to internal security, and not to undermine the prestige of the state, the accusation that has faced a large number of Syrians.

For its part, the Ministry of Communications and Technology of the Assad regime announced earlier that it would criminalize copying others ’posts on the“ Facebook ”website, imposing a prison sentence and a fine of up to 300,000 Syrian Pounds, and it claims to protect copyright.

The accounts of the pioneers of social networking sites in the regime-controlled areas are accompanied by tight security control, according to the admission of the Minister of the Interior of the Assad regime, Omar Rahmoun, who declared that the regime's intelligence services are monitoring Syrians' Facebook accounts.
