ARK News.. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has expressed grave concern about the potential impact of the Coronavirus on nearly a million displaced civilians in the Idlib area.

This came at a press conference held by Jens Lerek, a spokesman for the UN office, via video conference technology, at the United Nations Office in Geneva, on Friday.

He said: "The United Nations is deeply concerned about the potential impact of Corona on millions of people across Syria, especially over 900,000 people in the northwestern part of Syria (Idlib)."

He noted that the displaced civilians suffer from a shortage of food and clean water in the overcrowded camps in Idlib.

With regard to Libya, Lerek described the situation there as "sad", and that the United Nations supported Libyan officials in preparing for the confrontation of Corona.

He explained that there is an urgent need for additional funding to implement its preparatory plans.
