ARK News… Lebanon has announced international contacts and the resumption of a plan in collaboration with the Syrian regime to repatriate Syrian refugees back to their country

The Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati stated that Lebanon is conducting international contacts regarding the Syrian refugee issue in Lebanon. He emphasized that the fundamental solution is to consider most areas in Syria safe for the return of Syrians who came to Lebanon under the label of refugees.

Mikati added, "When safe areas are established in Syria and internationally recognized as such, most of the Syrians in Lebanon who are not working or do not have legal status in Lebanon will be repatriated."

He further stressed that "currently, there is nothing uniting the Lebanese more than the refugee issue," and that through international contacts, they seek to begin what is necessary on this matter.

On the other hand, the Minister of Displaced Affairs in the Lebanese caretaker government, Issam Sharafuddin, mentioned that there is coordination with the Syrian regime to develop a new plan for the return of refugees. He added, "Lists of those willing to return to their homes have been prepared and submitted to the security authorities."

Lebanon has witnessed a wave of anger against Syrian refugees since Monday evening (April 8, 2024), following the kidnapping and killing of Pascal Sliman, a member of the "Lebanese Forces" party, by a gang reportedly of Syrian origin who transferred his body to Syria.
