To set a date for the parliamentary elections... A delegation from the High Electoral Commission in Iraq arrives in the Kurdistan Region
ARK News... With the aim of holding meetings to determine an initial date for holding the Kurdistan Parliament elections, a delegation from the Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq arrived in the Kurdistan Region.
This morning, Tuesday, February 20, 2024, a delegation consisting of the Chairman and members of the Board of Commissioners and the Head of the Electoral Administration arrived in the Kurdistan Region, to hold important meetings regarding setting an initial date for holding the Kurdistan elections.
Jumana al-Ghalai, spokeswoman for the Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq, announced earlier that a delegation including the president and members of the Board of Commissioners, and the head of the Electoral Administration, in the presence of the UNAMI delegation, will meet on Tuesday with the presidency of the Kurdistan Region, in order to set an initial hypothetical date for holding the Kurdistan Parliament elections.
According to a presidential decree for the Kurdistan Region, the Kurdistan Parliament elections were scheduled to be held on February 25, 2024, the date for holding the sixth session of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections, but the Iraqi Election Commission.
The Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq had previously officially informed the Kurdistan Regional Presidency of its inability to hold parliamentary elections in the region on February 25, 2024, due to the Federal Supreme Court postponing the session to decide on the lawsuit submitted against the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections law until the 21st of the month. January 2024, the Commission will not be able to hold the regional parliament elections.”
The Federal Court was scheduled to consider, in its session on Sunday, February 18, 2024, the lawsuit submitted against the Kurdistan Parliament Elections Law, which was postponed for the 11th time in a row, but it postponed the session to February 21 of this month.
