UN Calls for Comprehensive Approach to Transitional Justice in Syria
ARK News.. The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has called for a comprehensive approach to transitional justice in Syria, emphasizing that the Syrian people now have an unprecedented opportunity to achieve peace.
Speaking at an event during the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Volker Turk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, stated:
"Transitional justice confronts the demons of the past to build a better future. It helps mend the institutional and social fabric of fractured societies."
He stressed that transitional justice is primarily about victims, dignity, and recovery.
Turk’s report to the Human Rights Council on Syria outlines strong practices for achieving transitional justice, which, he noted, should serve as an inspiration and a pathway toward sustainable peace in other regions.
However, he acknowledged that the road to peace is never easy and that transitional justice efforts are often hindered by political manipulation, selective or discriminatory approaches, lack of public support, and weak state institutions.
He emphasized that civil society, including grassroots organizations, is key to overcoming these challenges and encouraged UN member states to work closely with victims’ organizations and civil society groups to provide long-term support and protection.
Turk also warned against failing to build and sustain peace, stating that neglecting justice and ignoring victims could reignite old conflicts or spark new ones.
Highlighting the historic opportunity facing Syria, he noted that after more than 50 years of dictatorship and nearly 14 years of devastating war, the Syrian people have a chance to shape a new future.
For sustainable peace, Turk underscored the need for a comprehensive approach to transitional justice, incorporating:
✅ Accountability
✅ Truth-seeking
✅ Reparations
✅ Institutional reforms to prevent future violations.

Joe Wilson: Russia and Iran Must Leave Syria
ARK News.. Republican Senator and Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Joe Wilson, has emphasized that Syria’s stability is in the best interest of the United States, calling for the complete withdrawal of Russia and Iran from Syrian territory.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Wilson, who also serves as the Chairman of the Middle East Subcommittee in the U.S. Congress, stated:
"Syria’s stability serves U.S. interests. It facilitates the voluntary return of refugees, prevents ISIS resurgence, curtails Iranian and Russian influence, reduces drug smuggling, and promotes regional peace."
He further stressed that any forces working to destabilize Syria are acting against these objectives and will not receive support.

Pedersen: Reports from Syria’s Coastal Region Are Deeply Concerning
ARK News.. UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, has expressed "deep concern" over reports of intense clashes and killings in Syria’s coastal regions between government forces and elements loyal to the former regime.
In a statement, Pedersen said: "The reports are highly alarming, particularly regarding civilian casualties. While the situation remains fluid and we continue to verify the facts, it is clear that urgent restraint is needed from all parties, along with full adherence to the protection of civilians in accordance with international law."
The UN envoy urged all sides to refrain from actions that could further inflame tensions, escalate the conflict, deepen the suffering of affected communities, destabilize Syria, and jeopardize a credible and inclusive political transition.

جو ويلسون: على روسيا وإيران الخروج من سوريا
أكد السيناتور الجمهوري ورئيس لجنة الشؤون الخارجية في مجلس النواب الأميركي، جو ويلسون، أن استقرار سوريا يصب في مصلحة الولايات المتحدة، مشدداً على الحاجة إلى خروج روسيا وإيران من سوريا تماماً.

بيدرسن: التقارير الواردة من الساحل السوري مقلقة للغاية
أعرب المبعوث الأممي الخاص إلى سوريا غير بيدرسن عن "القلق العميق" إزاء التقارير التي تفيد بوقوع اشتباكات عنيفة وعمليات قتل في مناطق الساحل السوري، بين القوات الحكومية وعناصر موالية للنظام السابق.
وقال بيدرسن في بيان: "إن التقارير الواردة مقلقة للغاية عن سقوط ضحايا من المدنيين، وفي حين يظل الوضع متقلباً وما زلنا نعمل على تحديد الحقائق الدقيقة، فمن الواضح أن هناك حاجة ملحة لضبط النفس من جانب جميع الأطراف، والاحترام الكامل لحماية المدنيين وفقاً للقانون الدولي".
وطالب المبعوث الأممي جميع الأطراف الامتناع عن اتخاذ أي إجراءات من شأنها أن تزيد من تأجيج التوترات، وتصعيد الصراع، وتفاقم معاناة المجتمعات المتضررة، وزعزعة استقرار سوريا، وتعريض الانتقال السياسي الموثوق والشامل للخطر.

السلطات السورية تمدد حظر التجوال في اللاذقية إلى يوم غد السبت
لأسباب أمنية، مددت السلطات في سوريا، حظر التجوال في محافظة اللاذقية حتى يوم غد السبت 8 آذار 2025.
نقلت وكالة سانا للأنباء عن مصدر قيادي بإدارة الأمن العام في محافظة اللاذقية قوله: "يمدد حظر التجوال في المدينة إلى يوم غد السبت الساعة 9 صباحا".
وكانت السلطات السورية قد مددت فترة حظر التجوال في مدينة طرطوس حتى الساعة العاشرة من صباح السبت بالتوقيت المحلي "لأسباب أمنية"، حسبما أفاد مراسل "سكاي نيوز عربية".
وقررت السلطات فرض حظر تجوال في مدن محافظتي طرطوس واللاذقية على الساحل السوري، بعد اشتباكات عنيفة بين مقاتلين مرتبطين بالرئيس المخلوع بشار الأسد وقوات الأمن.
وأضافت أن عمليات تمشيط واسعة بدأت في مراكز المدن والقرى والبلدات والجبال المحيطة.

A Farewell to a Comrade
With hearts filled with sorrow and grief, and on behalf of the party’s leadership, members, and supporters, we mourn the loss of our comrade Khaled Kamal Darwish, a dedicated member of our party’s Central Committee.
Leaving us in the prime of his youth, he leaves behind a legacy of unwavering dedication and a lifelong commitment to the Kurdish cause.
The late Darwish was the eldest son of the martyred activist Kamal Ahmad Darwish, one of our party’s most prominent figures. Inspired by his father’s values and principles, Khaled became a symbol of loyalty and dedication in the struggle for his people’s rights.
His passing marks a great loss for both our party and the Kurdish national movement, as he bravely carried the torch of resistance and perseverance.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, comrades, and loved ones. May he rest in peace, and may we all find strength in this moment of grief.

روسيا تدعو إلى التهدئة ووضع حد لسفك الدماء في سوريا
دعت روسيا إلى "التهدئة" ووضع حد لـ"سفك الدماء" في سوريا حيث تدور اشتباكات في المنطقة الساحلية بغربي البلاد بين قوات الأمن ومسلحين موالين للرئيس المخلوع بشار الأسد، حليف موسكو، أسفرت عن مقتل العشرات منذ أمس الخميس.
قالت المتحدثة باسم الخارجية الروسية ماريا زاخاروفا "ندعو القادة السوريين القادرين على التأثير على تطور الوضع ميدانيا الى بذل أقصى جهودهم من أجل وضع حدّ لسفك الدماء في أسرع وقت ممكن".
وأكدت استعداد بلادها "لتنسيق الجهود بشكل وثيق مع الشركاء الأجانب لتهدئة الوضع".

Thousands of Students in Hasaka Face Uncertain Future
ARK News.. A Syrian human rights source has warned that thousands of students in Hasaka, in Syrian Kurdistan, face an uncertain future due to the lack of exam registration and the continued silence of the region’s new education authorities.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, students in both middle and high school have been left in limbo after the new administration closed exam registration.
"Despite repeated appeals, the new administration has refused to reopen registration for students wishing to take their final exams in Hasakah," the source stated. "Instead, the local education directorate has advised students to apply for exams in Deir Ez-Zour, Aleppo, or other provinces. However, this is an unrealistic option for most families due to the high travel costs."
The closure of schools previously operating under the former regime has further complicated the situation, the source added, as a lack of coordination between the new authorities and the education directorate has left students without alternatives. Additionally, teachers in Hasakah have stopped receiving their salaries, worsening the crisis.
